Attention All Junior Fishermen!! The Fish Odyssey Is here!!
Kids are going bananas for the 28th Annual Greater Niagara Fish Odyssey set for September 18-26, 2004 – literally! Especially since honorary Chair-Chimp, Charlie, is setting the standards for this year’s competition. That’s right, Charlie the Chimp is not monkeying around with small fish for the Fish Odyssey. That’s why he’s challenging every young angler to beat his minimum weight. If you do, you’ll win a special prize! The cost for the Junior Division? Absolutely FREE!!
Here’s the weights to beat, courtesy of Charlie himself:
Salmon – 20 pounds
Rainbow-Brown trout – 10 pounds
Smallmouth-Largemouth Bass – 4 pounds
Carp – 10 pounds
Panfish (inc. bluegill, sunfish, rockbass, crappie, yellow perch) - one pound
Walleye – 7 pounds
Of course, the top three places in each of the divisions will receive special prize consideration over and above the Charlie Challenge – thanks to the New York Power Authority and their generous sponsorship. All the winners will be provided with great prizes at the Awards Ceremony, slated for the NYPA Wildlife Festival on September 26th at 4 p.m. This site will also be the final day weigh in location for the derby from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Wildlife Festival, a unique celebration spotlighting National Hunting and Fishing Day, will actually be held both Saturday and Sunday on the final weekend of the derby.
And if you didn’t catch any fish in the derby (after all, that’s why they call it fishing and not catching) kids still have an opportunity to win some great prizes just by being registered. At the top of the list is a special drawing to take place on September 26th at 2 p.m. at the Wildlife Festival. Former Buffalo Sabre tough guy Rob Ray will draw a name from a bucket filled with every kid entered in the derby to see who will be his fishing partner on the water for a morning or afternoon. Great excitement! In addition, there will be some great door prizes for the kids being given away at the awards ceremony.
